If you are an employee with fairly simple tax affairs, you may feel that there is nothing we can offer you, but if you are worried that you don’t understand your tax code or you also have some savings or shares or other income, then a tax code check is an inexpensive service that could reassure you or allow you to apply to HMRC for a change of code or for a tax rebate.
If you are a higher paid employee or self-employed or a company director or have complicated tax affairs, you have probably already been asked by HMRC to complete a self-assessment each year, but if you have not, you may want to, in order to claim reliefs and allowances.
The self-assessment regime is highly regulated with fixed deadlines and fixed penalties if you miss them (currently £100 if you are one day late). Paper returns are being phased out and almost all returns are now done online, which requires registering some time before the deadline.
Any tax due must be paid by 31st January and interest is charged on late payments, starting at 5%. If you are self-employed (and if you are an employee who owes a lot of tax) you will also need to make a payment on account, which is a part payment towards the next year’s tax bill.
As with all our services, you will know before you instruct us exactly how much we will charge you for completing your self-assessment. It often happens that the tax saving made by using our self-assessment service is much greater than the fee charged. Contact us for a quote.
